RUNNING BIKES - 1939, 1946, 1947, 1948, 1950, & 1951 INDIAN CHIEFS FOR SALE, all have Jim Mosher Powerplants.I got these bikes mostly in the 1980's as I was planning on a restoration shop. I soon found out that parts manufacturing was my passion, 30+ years ago. I've been collecting and manufacturing additional parts for these machines ever since then. It finally came time to put the bikes together and here they are. A lot of the sheet metal is original Indian. All bikes have a CV or Linkert M344 or M350 carbs, rebuilt Autolite distributors, and complete Autolite generators. These bikes have rebuilt and working Corbin or Stewart Warner speedometers and all have OEM headlights. All bikes were properly assembled by me, so you can easily see what's there and that the parts fit. I've been doing this since I got my first bike, a 1953 Chief, in 1967. Yellow Dog, 1951 Chief, and the electric start 1947 Chief, are a little different.If it is important for you to modify the bikes on offer by adding or subtracting parts or to negotiate the prices, this website is not for you. Very early 1947, Indian Chief frame and powerplant. No 1947 Chiefs below serial number 1001 have been found.Clean New Mexico title and registration in my name. All repro parts are of the highest quality and most are not discernable from OEM parts.I’ve owned this Chief since the 1980’s. Titled in 1995.Around 9000 Chiefs were made in the 1947 model year. January thru August, 1947.Powerplant rebuilt by Jim Mosher in 2006. A BIG DEAL!Overdrive trans, Kiwi electric start, CV carb, and 80” Torque Evener make for a greatdaily rider. Cadmium Plating: All 1947 Chiefs had cad. plated hardware and many other parts. An exception are the 4 control rods, these are stainless steel and not cadmium plated steel. Glass bead rods for cadmium look.

Copper mesh air filter kit. Hard chromed stem fuel petcocks. Custom fuel line with heavy cast bronze “T”.JMB cast steel intake manifold with PEEK seals. The best you can get, important as most Indians have leaky intake manifolds.
Wheels and Brakes: Rims, spokes, hubs, drums, lug nuts, shoes, backing plates, brake levers, axles, hollow axles, chain adjuster, seals, bearings.Front and rear interchangeable wheels. Stark rims and Buchanon’s stainless spokes and nipples. Correct large nipple size and spoke size. JMB Center Stand. Flat spring.Stands are lost wax cast 4140 chromoly steel, virtually unbreakable. Big improvement over sandcast OEM. Stands are powdercoated.Center stand mounting frame lugs are in good condition.
Speedometer and Drive: Speedo, cable, drive.OEM Corbin speedo, 1946-1947, 110 mph face. Red high speed indicator needle with trip button. Rebuilt with odometer at 933 miles. Previous speedo replaced at 9301 miles. Good drive cable. OEM rear speedo drive for 5:00X16 wheels.
Saddle: Solo saddle, seat bracket.Black leather solo seat with fringe and side clips. Correct Indian Motorcycle logo. OEM cast steel seat T. Helper spring over seat post. Easily removed.OEM 3/8” mounting bolt.
Kickstarter: kicker, pedal, frame kicker shaft, gear assembly.JMB 12 tooth kickstarter arm, 1952-53, for distributor ignition. Rubber pedal pad and good pin. NOS pedal bolt.KS shaft in frame is straight and properly distanced from KS gear for proper gear mesh. This is a product of frame straightening.OEM spring loaded ball kicker gear assembly. Correct for 1948-51. Big improvement.This kickstater assembly is supplied with the additional parts.
Front and rear brake control, clutch control: Pedals, linkages, bellcrank, brake cam levers, clevis.OEM pedals are correct for 1947. Cast steel, nickle plated, footpads. OEM was rubber.JMB clutch and brake rods in 304 stainless, OEM was cadmium plated steel. JMB brake bell crank in heat treated 4140 chromoly steel. OEM rear and front brake cam levers. Drop forged clevis (3) from McMaster-Carr industrial supply. JMB heavy duty front brake cable. OEM front brake lever on handlebars. OEM front and rear brake plates.
Shifter and linkage: Shifter, shift rod, bell cranks.OEM chromed left hand shifter with a JMB accessory stainless shift knob, pn183001.JMB stainless shift rod. Glass bead control rods for cadmium look.OEM 1953 bellcranks on shifter and trans top. Option to change shift pattern.
Sprockets and chain, secondary: Drive sprocket, drum sprocket, chain.24 tooth OD trans sprocket. The bike will do 90 mph in overdrive at 7000 feet altitude.Greer 43 tooth new brake drum sprocket. Recently installed Starklite O-Ring drive chain.
Electrical: Dash panel, ignition switch, ampmeter, wiring harness, handlebar switches, distributor, coil, horn, spark plugs and wires, brake light switch. Aluminum dash panel. Correct for 1938-1947.OEM 41-47 ignition switch restored by JMB, correct large letters. Bakelite. JMB Leather key cover. Switch key and tool box keys.Nice, reproduction, US gauge, slant, ampmeter. Late 1946-1947.Main wire harness with woven outer sleeve. Horn button wire and dimmer switch wires supplied with switches. JMB made other wiring: headlight, horn, coil, metal covered tail light wires, short under dash wires. JMB restored OEM distributor, complete. Electronic ignition, condenser, “AL” black distributor cap, mounting bracket, and advance mechanism. Points kit also supplied.12 volt, 3 ohm, “Flame Thrower” coil. OEM 6 volt horn with 46-47 type starburst horn face. Use carefully.Spark plug wire (recent Packard 440 wire) assembly in chrome mounting tube with clip.Brake light switch. Lights: Headlight, tail light, front fender light, speedo light.Motolamp, complete, chrome with chromed rim. Shell is Greer’s. Perfect reproduction.Other parts are OEM. Chrome was correct for 1947.Tail light assembly, complete. Armored wires, glass lens and clip. 12 volt LED bulb. Starklite front fender light. Greer split plastic face. 12 volt LED bulb. OEM speedo light assembly. Screw in 12 volt bulb.

KIWI’S ELECTRIC STARTER KIT, 1940-1953Jan., 2025 price is $2900 from Kiwi. Plus: battery, off set pivot stud, and installation.Works fast and great. I’ve used it enough to like it and to feel comfortable on the road.Indians require a little more leg power and coordination that similar Harleys. Particularly the 80” Bonnevilles like this one.

Cadmium plated small parts, new springs, OEM Monroe front shock. OEM Bakelite Steering Damper Knob. New rubber bushings in OEM risers. Correct riser bolts (4). OEM 4" top fork links are available to purchase.OEM Motolamp headlight with Bakelite wiring pad complete, 6 volt bulb with a good plug assembly. Complete tail light assy. with correct glass lens, truck front fender light complete with glass lens (KD517 was original to 1946), OEM speedo light. CADMIUM PLATING, PRIMARY, FUEL SYSTEM.Almost all hardware is cadmium plated like OEM, and is new or in very good condition.Good outer and inner primary cases. Sealed trans so use 30wt or 50 wt motor oil. All parts in primary cases are good OEM. New generator drive pully with new bushings. Original clutch plates and springs, good. I like Greer replacements.Original M344 Linkert Carburetor, new JMB 1946 Fuel Filter Assy. with OEM Filter Stack, OEM 1940-1948 Air Cleaner, chrome cover, copper mesh filter. Copper fuel line, with heavy cast broze T, for a CV carburator.

There were a total of 500, 1951 Chiefs built. 80" flywheels, rods, and Greer 80" heads. Swedish Cylinders with LA Sleeve ductile iron sleeves, Starklite O-Ring valve covers, Jim Mosher "Street and Strip" cams and OEM gears. OEM Bonneville cam followers. Rebuilt with Jim Mosher ground ramps.OEM Aluminum oil pump fitted by Jim Mosher.Frank Byford 3 speed with Overdrive transmission in good shape. This makes a big difference in riding.JMB 12 tooth, 1952-53, 80" kicker, chrome. OEM Ball Bearing Kicker Gear, 32 tooth for distributor ignition. Kicker gear has Wilson Plank spring upgrade kit.Cycle Electric 12 volt generator with electronic voltage regulator.Original Auto-Lite distributor with electronic ignition. Complete and rebuilt by me. Complete points kit comes with bike.Exhaust is ceramic coated. Custom tail pipe with adjustable muffler inserts. I don't like LOUD.
